Kabosu, the Iconic Shiba Inu Meme, Passes Away at Age 18

Kabosu, the Shiba Inu who rose to fame as the face of the “Doge” meme, has passed away at the age of 18. Her owner, Atsuko Sato, a Japanese kindergarten teacher, confirmed the news on Instagram.

The beloved dog, famous for her expressive face and funny captions, captured the hearts of millions worldwide and became a symbol of internet culture. Sato shared a heartfelt post, saying, “Kabosu is at rest now.”

Dogecoin’s official X handle also acknowledged Kabosu’s passing, praising her as a source of inspiration and friendship for the community. The impact of this dog on the world is immeasurable, spreading happiness and love wherever she went.

In 2008, Sato named Kabosu after the citrus fruit “kabosu” due to her round face resembling the fruit.

The iconic Kabosu meme inspired the creation of Dogecoin in 2013, which started as a joke but has since become the largest meme coin by market cap. This success paved the way for other dog-themed tokens like Shiba Inu Coin (SHIB) and Floki (FLOKI) to gain popularity in the crypto industry.

Although Kabosu battled leukemia in late December 2022, Sato later shared that her health had improved after the diagnosis.
